I’m a huge fan of the British panel show Taskmaster, and Craig and I have spent a lot of the pandemic working through every single episode. Happily, they’ve been adding older episodes to YouTube, and even adding the episodes from the new season once a week!
The new season isn’t really doing it for us, though — it’s fine, but the (necessary!) safety precautions they have to take has diminished some of the chemistry, and the cast doesn’t seem to be gelling as much as we usually like to see. We’re still watching it, but we’ve also just taken to rewatching Series 7 of Taskmaster, which is widely considered to be the show’s best, and for good reason. It is the best.
The contestants — James Acaster, Jessica Knappett, Kerry Godliman, Phil Wang and Rhod Gilbert — are all brilliant and play off each other so well. Multiple times Craig and I will comment to each other just how quick-witted everyone is. Plus, you get running jokes like Rhod constantly bringing in embarrassing photos of host Greg Davies for the prize round of each episode.
Speaking of the prize round, Series 7 simply had the funniest and best prizes. My favourite: they’re tasked with bringing in the worst gift they’ve received from a relative and Jessica brings in a feather boa and purple opera gloves, and she says, “Do you know what happens when you wear a feather boa and purple opera gloves to the school formal? You don’t get fingered.”
And special shout-outs to James Acaster and Phil Wang, who have some of the best one-off lines in the whole show. I especially love in the first episode when Acaster says to Davis, “I know it’s early days, but are we the dumbest ones yet?” The whole series is so funny that we don’t even care that we know what happens.
All of Taskmaster Series 7 is on YouTube (along with series 1-6, with series 10 updated weekly) and if you’re looking for just pure joy and hilarity, I really, really suggest watching it.
That’s all for me today, gorgeous! Talk to you soon.
Love,
Kat

It really is the pinnacle of television. Have you seen that there's a New Year's special one-off starring none other than the great John Hannah? I can't wait :D
