Harley Quinn is SO GOOD, y'all
Craig and I watched all of season 1 and season 2 of Harley Quinn, and it is EXCELLENT. The first episode isn’t great (as my friend Andrew Ivimey said, the pilot seems to equate swearing with jokes), but then the show quickly finds its footing and is brilliant and hilarious. I love the focus on Harley’s friendship with Poison Ivy and how that grows and evolves over the two seasons, as well as just Harley’s personal growth as the show goes on. And it does all that while being very violent and having very silly humour.
And this is a STACKED voice cast. Kaley Cuoco, about whom I’ve never felt any kind of way, does a great job with Harley, and while Lake Bell can do one voice and that voice is “Lake Bell,” it works perfectly for Ivy. Unsurprisingly, Alan Tudyk’s voice work as Joker, Clayface, and several other characters is perfect. My actual BFF Chris Meloni plays an alcoholic Commissioner Gordon and it’s delightful. A lot of people are giving James Adomian huge props for voicing Bane, and that’s totally valid, but I have to give a shout-out to Ron Funches as King Shark. I don’t think Criag and I have ever laughed so hard as we did at his delivery of the line, “I’ve never seen a mouse smoke unfiltered, human-sized cigarettes to that degree before.”
For Variety, Caroline Framke wrote a great piece about how good Harley Quinn is, in case you need someone with actual cred to convince you. (There are some mild spoilers in there, beware.)
In the US, it was on DC Universe and now I believe is on HBO Max; in Canada, you might just have to “find a way” to watch it, if you get my drift. I’m already sad I don’t have any more episodes to watch right now.
Talk to you soon, my lovelies!
Love,
Kat
